How to fix wordpress auto update fail

In my previous post, I explained how to fix “briefly unavailable for scheduled maintenance. Check back in a minute” wordpress error.

After carefully following those steps, I observed that my problem was fixed but some links on my site didn’t work ex: categories and tags.

The reason is that the wordpress auto update was interrupted and databases were also not updated properly. Even im able to access my site wp-admin page and other stuff, category and tag links were throwing 500-Internal server error.

To resolve this problem, you have to update wordpress either manually or automatically.

There are many reasons for wordpress not updating right away. One problem, I observed was it is a plugin causing the wordpress not to update instantly.

Steps to fix wordpress auto update fail

  1. Update all your plug-ins (if anything has to be updated)
  2. Deactivate the recently installed plugin and try updating wordpress. Now, if you can successfully update wordpress, then the problem is with that particular plugin. Inform the problem to plugin developer.
  3. If you are still getting the update error, then deactivate other plugins (one by one) and check until you can successfully update the wordpress.

If you are still not able to update the wordpress, then do it manually. Please do comment, if you are still facing the problem even after following above steps.
